KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has “cleared” the Prisons Department to cane part-time model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno.

Where did this moron come from? He says Kartika deserves caning? For what? Anti-BN/UMNO/MCA/MIC? Religious/Racial bigotry?

He said department director-general Datuk Zulkifli Omar and a woman officer came to his office last week to conduct a caning demonstration for him.

This is the first of its kind .... we have had so many demonstrations - and now.... a caning demonstration!

“There was little force involved and it was not going to inflict pain, not even like the caning carried out in schools in those days.

How thoughtful. Little force, no pain etc. So, use a whip. Be more forceful. Heck, she drank beer!

“I am now satisfied that the caning can be carried out by the department if the court decides to proceed and enforce the sentence,” he said in an interview.

He is satisfied! That has deterred him and others like him from consuming Anchor beer.

Hishammuddin had recently said the ministry needed to study the proper procedures before caning the woman according to Syariah law, adding that he would not allow the department to execute the caning sentence if it did not have the knowledge and expertise to do it.

Seems to be very thoughtful. Proper procedures, call an expert, cane lightly, make sure sarong is on, have knowledge about the anatomy and the exact place to cane - 6 times....same spot 6 times.

Syariah Law? Syariah Law says you should cane a young mother of 2 for drinking beer? If that is true then I say, we do not need such a 'law' because it is of my opinion that this kind of punishment is prehistoric and that kind of court is decrepit.

Kartika, a 32-year-old mother-of-two, was fined RM5,000 and ordered to be whipped six times for drinking beer in a hotel in Cherating last year.

Kartika, you are one LUCKY lady! It's Ramadan and they are confused. First it was 'whipping' now it's been reduced to caning. Your wishes are overuled. Your agony is over. You have time to be emotionally prepared.

Her sentence has been deferred until after Ramadan.

No way they can cane her during a Holy month. Actually they are not even supposed to think of such things during the month of Ramadan. Others are 'trivial' things, which are ok, like humiliating the Hindus and religious/racial bigotry. All done after Friday prayers during the month of Ramadan.

Several parties, such as the Bar Council, have called for the sentence to be annulled.

Hishammuddin said that although he was now satisfied that the department was able to conduct the caning, he still felt it had no experience to do so.

Oops! Not satisfied. Changed his mind. He wants to cane Kartika himself? You need a Diploma/Degree to cane someone?

“This is because the woman (Kartika) will be the first to be caned (under Syariah laws applicable to Muslims). Four men who have received caning sentences by the Syariah Court are appealing their sentences,” he said.

On the merits of Kartika’s caning sentence, the minister said he had told the department not to get “embroiled in this.”

He knows everyone in the department is scambling to do the it.

“That is not their purview. It is the judicial process which decides that. If the caning sentence is to be imposed, it is their duty to carry it out fairly.”

Fairly? What is Fair? Caning fairly? That's a paradox. Judicial process? If this kind of 'Judicial process' is seen as 'fair' then I say, abolish this archaic process.

Kartika’s father, Shukarno Mutalib, when contacted, said the family was happy to hear that the department was able to handle the caning.

Mr Shuka, they do not know how and what to do - Keris too knows this, so why don't you understand? Actually, to heck with motives, I would never have any court cane a child of mine - not for a billion.

Ms Kartika, I am proud of you. You have exposed - to the world - what kind of Neanderthal men we have in BN/UMNO/MCA/MIC and a primal inferno we are forced to live in. You have also illuminated me on the senile geriatrics running an antiquated enclosure.

Don't these primitive predators realize that Kartika has to endure the indignity of this ignominy meted by mere shady characters throughout her life? All because of drinking beer?

Why pick on this one particular woman when there are so many out there consuming beer and alcohol, indulging in drugs and plain reckless rempits on the rage etc? She said "no" to some hotshot? There's more to it than Kartika drinking beer.

This is demeaning to women.
