Churches attacked in 1Malaysia

8 January 2010

When I came home after work I was rather surprised to know that some churches were burned I kept on watching Al Jazeera. I also found out that one of the churches was about 10 minutes from my place.

So, being curious, I decided to go have a look. I drove there and parked my car and walked into the church. I was surprised to find the church intact. Only later I was told by someone there that the cops were very fast to act - not to catch the perpetrators but to clean up the place before people like me video-tapes it.
I did take some photographs and a couple of videos which I have uploaded.

Later, I decided to drive by an area that is equivalent to Kula Lumpur's Kampong Baru. Petaling Jaya's own Kawasan Melayu - about 400 meters away from the church.

There I captured some photos of a banner on the wall of the mosque.

PENGGUNAAN ALLAH PERKATAAN HANYA UNTUK ORANG ISLAM SAHAJA.

MAJLIS AGAMA ISLAM SELANGOR

Translated it means:

The use of the word ALLAH is only for the people whose religion is Islam.

Majlis Agama Islam Selangor is, roughly translated, the Religious Council of Islam in Selangor.

In the 70s I used to walk freely through Kawasan Melayu. I shudder at the thought of walking into that area now.

This is a sad day for the country. These fanatical racial and religious bigots DO NOT REPRESENT  all Muslims in the country.
As a matter of fact, a Muslim friend said he was ashamed that this incident took place.
I appeal to the Hindus, Buddhists Christians and the people of other faiths to remain calm and not to retaliate.
Allow me to repeat: these illiterate confused racists do not represent ALL Muslims.

We have a (democratic?) government - in my opinion the wrong one that rules the country.

I do not see any real action being taken. Announcements are in the air - that the police are having it all under control. Then why are there more churches being burned? And a Convent school?

A lot Talk .... very few Walk The Talk.

This act is mushrooming although the powers to be say that the police are guarding all places of worship. At least that is what I heard on TV.

I feel saddened by this incident. I went to Muar with my sister and her husband and we had lunch at a Malay stall in a big building. We were the only non-Malays there and all the Malays were so nice and friendly. You would think this incident never happened.

So I say again....these pathetic people who burned the churches do not represent their community. It is totally unIslamic. The Koran does not condone such despicable acts of violence and sacrilege. Nothing new to these Malays who do not know what Islam represents.

.... to be cont'd
